Pumps

Two 1100 gallons-per-hour rule 1000 bilge pumps power the boat and the turret. Bilge pumps are intended to draw water from a reservoir. We attempted to modify the pumps to draw water through a hose of conferrable diameter to the inlet, but this severely limited the output.

We then cut holes in the hull for the pump inlets and embedded the pumps directly in the hull, compressing the foam with the pump to create a seat. Screws through a plastic washer on the exterior of the hull clamp the pump to the foam and a bead of silicon sealant ensures that the assembly remains leak-proof.
